The Nordoff and Robbins Carol Service 2023, generously sponsored by Hipgnosis Songs, took place at St Luke’s Church, Sydney Street, London, SW3 6NH, on 12th December 2023. This annual event, known for its warm atmosphere and star-studded performances, aimed to raise funds for Nordoff and Robbins, the UK’s largest independent music therapy charity.
The evening featured outstanding performances by Beverley Knight, Kaiser Chiefs, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, and the Latymer Prep School Choir. Hosted by Joe Stilgoe and Beverley Knight, the event showcased a blend of music and heartfelt moments. Carrie and David Grant entertained the audience, while Ronni Ancona provided a humorous reading.
Ricky Wilson from Kaiser Chiefs expressed his support, saying, “I love the idea of being able to unlock people’s worlds with the work that Nordoff and Robbins does.”
David Grant highlighted the power of music, stating, “Music is healing, music is a moral right, music is still the most powerful form of magic. As Maya Angelou says, ‘Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back on loneliness.’ The Nordoff and Robbins choir provides the space between the notes for anyone, regardless of ability, regardless of experience, so they can experience the joy of singing together with other people.”
Beverley Knight emphasised the charity’s mission, saying, “Nordoff and Robbins work is about accessing people’s hearts and their minds. That’s how special music is.”
