Emeli Sandé and Laura Wright performed at Nordoff Robbins’ annual Carol Service on Tuesday 18 December at St Luke’s Church in Chelsea, London.
Emeli and Laura were joined on the night by readers Eileen Atkins (Gosford Park, Last Chance Harvey) Romola Garai (One Day, The Hour), Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey), Bill Nighy, Colin Salmon (Die Another Day, The World is Not Enough, Tomorrow Never Dies) and Ed Speelers (Downton Abbey, Eragon).
The event, now in its 16th year, is raising funds for Nordoff Robbins’ music therapy work. As the UK’s leading music therapy charity, Nordoff Robbins deliver over 50,000 music therapy sessions every year to people with a range of challenges such as autism, dementia and life-threatening or terminal illnesses, such as cancer. Music therapy is a specialist use of music to help people in many different ways – for some it has physical benefits, for others emotional or social ones and it can help people to communicate.
Emeli Sandé, who has recently become an Ambassador for Nordoff Robbins, said “Nordoff Robbins is an organisation really close to my heart. We all know how powerful music is and the impact it has on our everyday lives. Nordoff Robbins somehow use this power to literally transform lives.
“The Carol Service is a really unique event and I was delighted to take part.”
