Rob Dickins CBE, a luminary of the UK music industry, was honoured with the prestigious 12th annual Music Industry Trusts Award (MITS) at a gala ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. The award, presented in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the UK music industry over a 32-year career, was attended by over 1,000 guests from the music and entertainment industries. The event, organised by the BPI, raised funds for the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Trust.
David Munns, Chairman of the Award Committee, praised Dickins’ extensive contributions: “Rob is the Renaissance Man of the record industry. He’s covered all bases, always prepared to get stuck in, whether it’s working with Enya in the studio, advising on the album artwork and videos, or A&R-ing Rod, The Corrs, and Cher. He’s also devoted countless hours to the BPI, serving as a Council member and a record-breaking four terms as BPI Chairman. I can think of no one more deserving of the 2003 Music Industry Trusts Award than Rob Dickins.”
Dickins’ career began in 1971 when he joined Warner Bros Music Publishing. By 1974, at just 24 years old, he was appointed Managing Director. In 1983, he became Chairman of Warner Music UK, a position he held until 1998. During his tenure, Dickins was known for his artist-focused approach, discovering and nurturing talents such as Cher, Rod Stewart, Simply Red, Suggs, Prince, REM, Alanis Morissette, Madonna, and Enya. Since 1999, he has headed Instant Karma, his own entertainment company.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dickins has been a dedicated supporter of the BPI, serving on the BPI Council from 1983 to 2002 and holding the Chairman position for four terms. His contributions include key initiatives such as the Classical BRIT Awards, anti-piracy and copyright legislation, and transforming The BRIT Awards.
