PPL, the UK music licensing company, today announced its financial results for the year ending December 2011 at the company’s AGM.
The guest key note speaker was Chief Executive Officer and Comptroller General of the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), John Alty CB.
Adele’s 'Rolling In The Deep' took the top spot in the PPL People’s Pop Chart, with 'Primavera' by Einaudi topping the PPL People’s Classical Chart. PPL revealed charts at their AGM, held at Kings Place in London. The charts are compiled using TV usage, radio airplay and public performance usage data.
Rolling in the Deep was taken from Adele's second studio album 21. The song debuted at number two in the UK, reached number one in 11 countries around the world including America and was the song that made Adele a global name . The song spent 65 weeks in the chart in the UK, has won many awards including three Grammy's.
"This means a lot so thank you very much and I am told it's the first time three songs by one artist have been in the top five which is pretty incredible" said Adele. "Thank you very much for all your support and hard hard work."
Adele was the undisputed queen of pop in 2011; three of her singles feature in the top five and she also takes the top spot in the PPL People's Artist Chart. Adele is signed to independent label Beggars.

The PPL People's Artist Chart is based on the use in 2011 of all the recordings of each artist. This includes recent hits but also timeless classics and reveals which artists the public love listening to the most.

PPL also revealed the most played classical recordings of 2011 in which Einaudi takes the top three spots, the number one being Primavera. The top three most played classical recordings of 2011 are:

3) Einaudi - The Tower - Ludovico Einaudi
